The following are resources everyone should review and pass to everyone they know affected by the storm: Disaster Recovery Center - When the president declares an emergency or major disaster, the Washington State Military Department, Emergency Management Division (EMD), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) jointly administer programs in a Joint Field Office (JFO) to help individuals who suffer disaster damage or losses. To assist the public in obtaining information, Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) are normally established in or near the affected area. Reduction of Property Taxes - Property in a declared disaster area may be eligible for a reduction in taxable value, even if it was not damaged, if its true market value was reduced by more than 20 percent due to negative local economic conditions. For example, the taxable value of a property located on a slope may be reduced if other properties in the same area were damaged by landslides. IRS Disaster Tax Center - Are you an individual or a business in need of money to deal with impact of the December 2007 storm and flooding disaster? Because several counties have been declared a Presidential Disaster Area, you are allowed to claim a disaster loss on your Federal Tax Return.
